Might have been a Tarpon, or a big Jack. Go to the observation deck and you'll see them Where is the observation deck, right by the power plant? Can you fish there?

Shark is a better guess. It's been written that Bull sharks move into the bay this time of year but I don't believe they show up in mass til the big Tarpon move in

That's pretty cool. So are the parking over at the round parking area by the restrooms on the south side? Hows the fishing around the breakwaters?

I might shoot by there sometime this week. I've never been there, looks like a solid spot to try out the new waders.

next step filet jack and let the carcass soak so you get the frenzy going (the mo fresh blood in the water the better) 2. cut filets in two lengthwise and fish the strips on a 1 oz fish finder rig ( if you start catching too many catfish suspend mid water column on cork rig) 3. Keep pitch rod on ready. Look for Rays, Sharks ect. either catch more bait or man yer pole but watch that water for cruising Brown Bombers 4. Have a solid plan for landing your Cobia, once you hook up. These fish dont play, theyll make you think theyre whipped and then explode when you try to land them. They are big, mean, and armed and dangerous. This is when most Cobia are lost. a good strong gaff is a great tool to have. No kidding around, they are armed with a row of sharp spilkes on thier backs that will quickly send you to the emergency room. 4-5 footers are not uncommon. Strongly suggest taking these guys to shore to land if in a Kayak.

never landed a bull there but if theres tarpon, jacks, and stingrays around The bulls arent far behind. I purposly use tackle strong enough to land the Blacktips but light enough i can break the bigger stuff off. Im only targeting the blactips to get the neighborhood exited and in a frenzy in hopes I'll atract a Cobia. And I like eating Blacktips as much as any other fish, so this way I double my chances at some meat. Rarely do I blind fish for Cobia. But I a l w a y s keep a pitch rod handy, where or whenever Im fishin.

I’m here now. No one I saw or talked to got any fish. I tried swimbaits, spoons, gotchas, dead shrimp, and cut ladyfish. Nothing on anything If I had to guess, fishing is probably best during the coldest days (like the last cold front). I've had better luck on days where the air temp is 60 degrees and under. Maybe fish can sense when warmer days are ahead (like these next 6 days) after a cold front and head back out to their usual haunts.

Live mullet is key to fishing the power plant. Soak the on the bottom and wait for cobia, large jack, or shark. May take a while to catch mullet in the cast net but it’s worth the time. Never could get the tarpon that pass through to bite. Kayak fishing is fun there. But most my fish have been caught from the shore. The pompano also move through there at times and can be fire when they are there
