Before they are done it will be zero fish..... they just shut down Lane Snapper for the rest of the year, you know because three weeks will make a huge difference in their flawed data.....

what a joke. 19" limit? sure going to make a big difference there. if they wanted to bump the population up, then do 5 @ 12"-18" and drop the oversized fish. grouping sarasota & tampa with the keys is absurd

Some where between "every man for himself open season no limits" and "all CR, keep no fish" is the happy medium. But we will never achieve a "happy medium" because no matter what the regulatory entities propose, some one will be unhappy.

The decline in trout numbers was not caused by recreational fishermen, there's something else at play here

The decline in trout numbers was not caused by recreational fishermen, there's something else at play here I don't see a decline in trout numbers. I slay the specs every time I fish out of my kayak on the flats. I think their research is B.S.! The same goes for Snook, they are prolific. I do however agree with the redfish closure. I don't see a lot of redfish around Tampa Bay, like I used to when I lived in Pensacola. In Pensacola Pass in the fall, the big Bull reds would come in for a few weeks in the fall, and during that time you could catch 30-40 LB reds one after another all day, and all summer on the flats you could catch nice slot reds. But here in Tampa Bay, I don't catch many at all.

The FWC is so out of control, I think their overreach has a counter effect in that more and more people have stopped following the rules, because the rules are so out of control. I'm all for conservation, and am responsible in following the rules, but I too am getting fed up...

The Lawyer in me says its only for Federal waters (9 Nautical Miles out) for Commercial Permit holders. Only applies in State waters for Comm. Fisherman. Copied below....
Recreational and commercial harvest of lane snapper in federal waters will close at 12:01 a.m. (local time) on December 13, 2019.
Recreational and commercial harvest will reopen at 12:01 a.m. (local time) on January 1, 2020. No recreational or commercial fisherman may fish for or keep lane snapper after 12:01 a.m. (local time) on December 13, 2019. The closure applies in both state and federal waters for vessels that have a valid Gulf of Mexico commercial reef fish permit.

Anyone have luck with specks up by hearnando? I live near the pasco hernando county line, may have to start exploring with the kayak.

They closed LANE snapper? Is this an issue? I mean I don't fish down there that much, but the only lane snapper I ever caught were pinfish sized.
I'd be angry about the spec rules but I couldn't catch one to save my life. Same goes for reds. Caught a couple snook last trip but I'm pretty sure they were special needs fish.

GETTING to that point? lol Maybe you missed my posts on how you need a damn degree to know the FL fishing regs. They are already crazy.

Getting to the point where we need to take along a lawyer to figure out these convoluted rules! I once told a Fish and Game officer that you had to have a Lawyer in your back pocket these days. He agreed. :/ Edited to add:
And, if you ever get the 'opportunity' to fish in California, you'll begin to appreciate the 'streamlined' regulations of Florida!! LOL Was on a trip there this year, and picked up the regs, the addenda, the special addenda, etc. etc. Talk about having to have a Lawyer in your pocket! Geesh.
