November 11th I tried my trolly set up... forgot the rubber bands. Trolley pole also has braid and the bait was impossible to slide down. I also learned without a hook I was not able to snag the bottom. Kids off school and lots of loud radios and and no one catching fish... I left after an hour or so.
I dod catch 1 lizard fish with the white pipe cleaners wrapped around a 1oz jig head
Tuesday was a much better day... except for the mackerel... everyone was catching them and they were big... I couldn't buy a bite. I flat lined a green back and caught a pelican. I saw Mack's caught with greenback chunks on the bottom so after throwing sabiki and other stuff that didn't work it, I bottom fished with chunks. I got a lane snapper. Down again... I learn to hate pinfish again... they pick those pieces to death. Any way. I got a hit and it took all my strength to hold the rod, 2 hands, couldn't even think of reeling. I figured a shark or sting ray. It is running with the current under the pier, not taking much line. Then on the other side of the pier I hear what sounds like a bathtub fall in the water, and I'm thinking... that's my fish! People are now gathering around me. I realize I need to start cranking and gained some line and then it made a b line to the pillar... I am shuffling the other way and pumping slow short ups and reel downs. I finally get it turned and below me, see color... and there he is... the silver king about 3 ft... I think I saw it wink at me as it did a half jump and roll. And the line broke right below me. I am still pumped about it. And on 12 pound mono to boot.
Managed small mangroves, a pinfish, and a short gag.
The other high light was the guy next to me lob an 8inch pinfish out and 10 minutes later a 27" gag... where I was fishing all day long... I switched side with the tides looking for snapper. Another guy was using plugs and catching gags.
I saw 4 gags come over the rail 2 keepers, a ton of Spanish mackerel and fat ones.
Learned a few things from other too
A trip I won't soon forget
Thanks for all the stories and tutorials guys... I caught these because of you
Best regards
