i can’t make this s*** up! Was on Hubbard’s 10 hr again today. There was a nice couple I was talking to. At one point in the trip the guy drops his rod and reel overboard, and of course he was real mad about it. Maybe 30-40 minutes goes by and the guy next to him thinks he has a fish and reels the guys rod and reel back up! But, wait it gets better..... the guy then starts reeling his line up and realized there was a fish on. He reeled up a legal Hogfish! Crazy right?!? really rough out there today and a lot of people sick in the cabin all day. Fishing was slow as always following a cold front, but I still managed a nice stringer! 18 inch mangrove, a beauty and also a 12.5 mangrove, three Porgies and one was over 15 inches. Two Lanes, a grunt, a squirrelfish, and my very first Strawberry Grouper!

Wow, Sigetrooper02 what a crazy story. Glad the guy got his rod and reel back and he still had a keeper fish on. I am sure the Customer,Captain Dylan Hubbard, the crew @ the Marina and the passengers on that trip will be talking about that trip for a long time.

I hope the guy is knowledgeable enough to get a full service on the reel!
Very cool story

Cool story. Actually happened to me too, on my own boat years back!! Yep, submerged reels needs a complete breakdown and cleaning after going down to the bottom in 90’!!

sigetrooper, great story. Sometimes unusual things happen on fishing trips. That's part of the appeal of getting out. Even bad fishing days can be good in other ways. Fish on.

That's happened to me twice. One time I was on a deep sea trip and sorta drank way to much and dropped my rod overboard. I went in and got one of the boat's rods. First drop, I caught my rig. Brought back the boat's rod. Second time I cast out my rod, put it down and turned to get another rod out of my car. I turned back just in time to see my first rod being pulled into the water. I fished that spot for about 3 hours. When I reeled in my rod for the last time before I left, I caught the rod that had been pulled in.
