I’ve heard that little tunny (aka: false albacore) are good as sushi/sashimi but Have not tried it. We always used to cut them up for snapper/grouper bait or just let them go. Next one I catch is getting bled and dropped in the cooler.
We used to catch true Atlantic Bonita on the Okaloosa county pier back in the late 80s early 90s. Everyone there called them northern Mack’s. I cooked them just like Spanish macs. Haven’t caught one since 1993, which was the last time I fished that pier. Do they show up here?

again, not the same fish.
food (or bait) for thought -
I've seen "Bonita" for sale at baitshops all over the state. But for the life of me I can't recall ever seeing them being sold for food at any market anywhere. If it was that good, trust me these greedy sonsofabizitch comercial guys around here would be capatalizing on it. but hey to each his own... alot of folks dont care for mullet. I happen to love it. Fried or Smoked fish on.

I also went on 10/10 but in the pm. Got there around 9pm fished the incoming tide. Tried catching some snapper off the pilons. When the tide started going out I fished off the rock piles. Caught a handful of under sized snapper and my girlfriend caught one keeper, her first ever so the trip was worth it. It seemed pretty crowded for a weekday night. Those piles are under so much pressure, I wish they would drop the other span right where it is.

I also fished last night from 7-11pm. Slow incoming. Caught 7 6" mangos and 1 6" lane. Pretty slow night.

Talk about so much info and misinfo out there about bonitos and edibility. So many tasty cooking videos for both types of bonitos. Only one way to judge for yourself. Grill it up yourself. If I catch one, on ice it goes. Whats the worse that can happen. I have eaten beef tartar. And carp many times.

Fried or Smoked fish on. True but from what I have read, in the Mediterranean and Balkans, they love them. I like mullet. If you ever get a chance, find a shop where they sell Polish food. Sometimes they have smoked whole mackerel. So smoky, your wife will not kiss you for a week. Hence, I try to eat it once per week.

I do so hope you are not including me in that greedy some bitch catigory as a commercial fisherman myself i operate differently i dont care to catch every fish or thing that resembles such to make a dollar i take what i need or catch what god wills me to collect in a day an i also think a fishery can be sustained for both rec an commercial harvest in unisen i also would rather give fish away to the hungry or poor than see them float belly up it is a horrible waste to see rotten fish that should have been possible food go to waste when people are starving every day i was given a gift to be able to find the fish an feed hungry people an teach others how to follow suit i will continue to do this till the lord wills otherwise.i pledge to do my best for this world even when it wont allways give the same in return. Please think before you accuse. Not every book reads the same

holy catfish Will calm down buddy that comment wasnt intended for you personally. i know alot of guys who fish for a livin. Have done some myself. That comment was in reference to the crooked unscrupilous wheeler-dealer types that come and go. Just look at Red Snapper and what is happening there and always remember the golden rule if you dont start no shizit there wont be no shizit im sorry if you felt that was intended for you whover you are but it wernt and as a matter of fact it was true peace man peace

took a while, but I found the BFT post. Post is from 2009, and he's claiming he caught it 6 years before that so that makes it 2003, 16 years ago. Ilustrating how rare a of a Unicornfish it really is.
