macks and bluerunner are biting! Go get them! How do you cook your runners Fillet, cut out the blood line and then fry like any other fish. Smaller ones make good sashimi too. Or make them unagi-style, but pan-fried vs grilled: dust fillets in corn starch, pan-fry in a little oil, then simmer in sauce until sauce thickens. Sauce: www.justonecookbook.com/unagi-sauce-2/ Its a version of Teriyaki sauce, you can use Teriyaki sauce too. I cooked bluerunner and bluefish like this last night, then made sushi rolls with it. Sort of like an unagi roll but with fish.

Dang, I just threw a bunch back on Saturday. I've always heard they weren't good to eat, but have never tried them. I'll have to give it a shot. I was catching mine with a knocker rig and shrimp.

When they are around they will hit about anything. Jigs, spoons, cut bait, larger sabikis etc.
Lots people say certain fish are no good to eat but never tried them. Bluefish, small jack crevalle, spadefish, pigfish and croakers all fall into this stereotype but are fine eating.

Blue runners everywhere. Even on tough nights, few macs and a few snapper should land in the cooler.

It's all in the cleaning and preparation. If it has a bloodline cut it out. Fish nuggets, fish patties, made like salmon patties and smoked fish dip made with baked or grilled fish chopped up, mayo, mustard, horse radish, Texas Pete and Liquid Smoke. Mmmmm, I'm getting hungry.

Macks i tried 8-16 ft of #40 fc with 4-6 oz swivel lead an all kinds of spoons i broke off all the spoons i got from brian (the white works the best i ever saw ) an everything from 1-16 oz crappie jig to 1-1/2 oz snook size bucktail jigs with curly tail trailers. I drop it all the way down an reel up fast i jig an drop i try just strait retrive. Popping floats an freeline usually it kills em with those. But nada this should also tell you why i dont bother with playing lotto or worry about lightning last 6 months to year have sucked for me in fresh an salt water

Knocker or fish finder rig. Lg shrimp. And I move around. When I feel tiny bites. Tap tap tap. I move on. Till it’s a whop. That’s a snapper. Then I’ll use shrimp and cut greenbacks. But you have to move around. Tides. I prefer incoming.

how often do you go fishing? This is one of the key. You don't know how many time I have fail to catch anything before I finally learn how to catch some fish.
I spent like 1 whole year hunting for pompano and go out like 2x a week and coming home with nothing to show for it. Might get lucky and get one or two. Now I have a good idea on how to catch them 4-5yrs later but I still fail to catch them most of the time. Reason is.. if they are not there... I cannot catch them.
What I am trying to say is there is no magical pill that you can take and start to catch fish. However there are a lot of things you can do to improve the chance of catching the fish "when people around you are catching fish". These are the tricks and lure we use. Sometime they work better than other time. Sometime they don't it all depends on the fish. There are days when I cannot even get a bite on live bait and the guy next to me was killing it with the weight and spoon(that day they were only biting deep). Watch what the other person is doing that is catching the fish. Copy him/her or understand it and fish it the way you like to fish. This comes with experiences and seeing the details.

Bluefish - Huge up in New England, people love them and they get big up there! 10 Lbs is not uncommon in New Jersey, and they can get much larger than that. Strange the ones here I nthe gulf seem to rarely be big enough to keep. I do not like them at all, personal preference I guess. You can have mine! Jack Crevalle - gross.... you can have mine!!! Spadefish - great to eat if you get lucky to get one big enough around the Skyway. If they are on the small side, cook them whole Pigfish and croakers - also good to eat, nice white meat - also scale them and cook them whole

Im gonna keep trying things i move around a good bit maybe just bad times i move dunno Fishing can be what I call streaky...spells of good fishing and times when they don't bite. I bring varied bait (squid and shrimp and later cut fish) and have spoons, jigs and sabikis available. Sounds like you do the same with varied rigs etc. Maybe, fishing a different area will help. Try Ft. Desoto, Dunedin Causeway or Sand Key park. I have found SSP to be tough...I have had real good days elsewhere but its hard for me at SSP for some reason. Don't give up.

True to bluefish. All ways small. Runners ok. Don’t target them but I do keep bigger ones. Jack carv tried it. It’s ok. I keep to give away at work. Got to bleed jacks and runners ASAP. Lizardfish. Actually good fish. Lots of meat per pound of fish. But most are too small to deal with.

Had a friend who was first mate @ Hubbard's back in the late 80'S early 90's and he was originally from NY. He said bluefish were only good for rose bushes.
I have eaten them before being originally from New Jersey but have not eaten them since well before 1986 when I moved here so I do not remember how they taste.
