This is good stuff....... That is Exactly how it works. I have known people in the past that have lost their Gear & Vehicles for doing the same thing. Like I said previously & SkyJay just said, I would definitely wait until You get Home to clean Your catch. Only Your Wife & Kids can tell on You then. You can Con Your Wife & Kids but You cannot Con the Law, the FWC & the Cops. Bad Boys, Bad Boys. What You gonna do when they come for You. That is just My Opinion and I am sure that others that knows will share My Opinion. Since I live in a Condo and have no place outside to clean my fish, and there is No way I’m scaling or filleting in the kitchen (you can answer to my wife, I’m not going there) I clean all my fish at the pier or beach or shoreline. I always have a cooler filled with ice water, #30 ice and a little salt water to make it extra cold. I’ve also epoxied a cutting board to the top of my cooler that I clean the fish on, works great. I only clean my catch when I’m done fishing for the day and it’s the last thing I do before I drive home. I discard all waste back into the water and let the fish and crabs have their fill, I usually try to go toward the start of the pier as there are less pelicans hanging around. I save the plastic bag that the ice was in and put my fillet or scaled snapper, sheephead (wife likes to steam these whole not filleted) in the bag then back in the cooler it goes. Once home I rinse with fresh water, then freeze or eat my catch. I’ve been doing this for years now and never had any problems with the FWC (and yes I’ve seen and talked with them many times) or the quality of my catch. I’ve filleted and skinned my larger mackerel and had it for my sashimi dinner with the wife, and have yet gotten sick from any parasites or bacteria that may have been in the water. While cleaning my fish I do use the salt water to rinse off my cutting board and to rinse off the fish that I’ve scaled, all the final rinsing is done at home. It is legal to clean your fish at the pier or shoreline, but not On the water in a boat. If your catch is all legal then you should not have to worry about the FWC! And yes they are smart enough to determine the size of your fish even after it’s been cleaned. Stay with on on the limits of the law and you will not have any problems. They could have a 1 million dollar fine, but the only ones who should be concerned about it would be the person who is not obeying the regulations that the FWC has in place.

Justfishin2: I Commend You on Your Post but Not All People out there are not like You and many others. I Fillet everything I catch at Home. I do not Scale any Fish. There are plenty of Videos on-line showing how to fillet any kind of Fish. I also live in a Condo but my Girlfriend lets Me clean My catch at home as long as I clean up the Mess. Many people out there want to take home what they can whether it is Legal or Not. You Follow the Rules & Regulations set by the FWC but then again, "Many Out There Do Not". It would be Great if everyone followed the FWC Rules & Regulations.

scale your fish underwater in the kitchen sink if you want to do it without a mess & put a strainer in the drain to keep scales from going down. put down some newspaper on the counter if you want to fillet something without making a huge mess too. If you clean at the pier, be within the law & you should be fine. but I still wouldn't be cleaning barely legal fish on a pier.

When I fish the Skyway piers, I use the top of a large cooler and rinse it off using salt water as fresh water scarce out there. This I do after my fishing is done. I like fishing Fort Desoto, Bellaire and Sand Key as the piers there have tables and water to clean fish. Much easier on the back. My wife also does not want me cleaning fish at home. And I don't like dealing with the mess at home and the extra garbage.

I have filleted fish both @ home and at Ft Desoto and one time @ one of the Skyway Piers. I live across the street from the Intracoastal water so it is easy to put the carcasses and stuff in a bucket and walk it across the street.
I have fished the pocket park @ the end of my street a little and mainly caught stuff I rather not keep so I do not fish there. Will need to try it again when the weather and water cools off.
