We are new to the pier would you suggest the north Pier or the South Pier for a family to fish from South since there is more bathrooms and more room.

I would agree with phishead, the south pier you have a lot more places to park/move from place to place and catch fish. Several bathrooms 🚽 are important if you bring wife or children. Bring your own bait or catch your own with sabiki rigs or cast nets, pier bait is expensive $$$ there are several bait shops fairly close by that you can stop at just google search for them.
Good luck and tight lines 🤪

Definitely agree with everyone above about the space and restrooms. But fishing wise I don’t seem to notice much difference. My catch rate seems to be about the same at both. I go to the north pier more because I live in Pinellas. I’d say go to the one that’s closer and if it’s too crowded head to the other. Your pass is good for both piers.

south pier doesnt have Big Mike. I recomend all newbies talk to him first before fishing. North Pier baitshop. Big Mike is the man.

Can’t beat the fun kids can have with sabiki. What bait do you put on them You can but don’t need to. They are rigged with a mini lure. Just be careful. Trying to handle a rig with 6 hooks can be a challenge. All you need to do is attach one to your line and a sinker, dipsey style, on the other. Drop it over the rail, let it hit the bottom and gently bring up a foot and let it gently drop a foot. And repeat. You usually catch before it hits the bottom the first time. After kids have fun with this. Move up small hooks, 4 and 2 sizes. Use knocker rig it’s simple but effective. Bait with pieces of shrimp. They will catch small pins, grunts, snappers. Then move up to 1/0 circle hooks and while shrimp or cut threadfins caught on sabiki and go for keeper snapper and grunts.

You can also get sabikis with just 3 hooks on the rigs. Much easier to handle and shorter.

My 5 year old loves the sabiki rod. We usually tip with very small pieces of shrimp, as he loves to get the shrimp out of the bait bucket and then cut it up. Usually catch pins that way. I find threadfins/greenbacks are usually better caught with no shrimp on them. Not sure how other people's experiences have gone.
I've also had lady fish caught/break off the sabikis and 1 crevalle jack, but never any snapper.
