Hi! I'm new on here. I've recently just found this forum and I've already learned quite a bit about the piers on here. Me and a friend are planning to go next Thursday to do a 24 hour trip on the piers, 12 on the South and 12 on the North. We plan on mainly going for grouper and mackerel or anything we're able to keep! I was wondering if there's any tips on going for these two fish? I know there's rock piles at both Piers and I heard that they're good for grouper and all sorts of snapper too. I'd really appreciate it if anyone can give some good knowledge, because the last time I was at the north we had some pretty big hits at the end of the pier! Much thanks

Focus on snappers. You may also catch sea bass and large grunts. Look up how to rig a mackerels set up on this forum. Stay mobile. Get shrimp elsewhere. Check both piers at fort desoto. And the bridge on the way to desoto may hold pompano.

Aaronf116, Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of info in the stickies.
Re getting bait Gator Jim's,Tatum's and O'Neil's were mentioned in the bait shop thread and would be good if you were going from the North. I do not know about any shops on the South side of the Skyway as I live North of the bridge/Piers.

The main thing is to get out there and fish. Read the stickies, stay mobile, observe the birds and baitfish.

Start out on the North Pier. Go see the baitshop Manager Captain Big Mike. He will hook you up. hook line and sinker.
