What is this fishing you are talking about? There is no such thing!
I do... just not as often as I want to.

When is Hot in the Summer around here, the Fish move to deeper water from the shallow depths that We have here in Tampa Bay. During the Summer, We also have less varieties of Fish that We like to eat to catch due to Fish Migration. Some of Us here like the Cooler Temperatures to Fish when We have a Bigger Variety of Fish to catch. The Rainy Weather & that We have had lately here which dirties up the Tampa Bay Waters is also another Factor. I also do not like to Fish in Lightning during the Storms. Tampa Bay is the Most Active Lightning Area in the World. But like Tears said, Sometimes most of Us go Fishing but not as often as We want to as in the Spring, the Fall & the Winter when it is cooler.

I obviously do not understand Irish language. The last 7 posts are fishing reports.

Unfortunately I’m up in Norfolk, Va for work for the next two weeks, but normally I post 2-3 reports a week. I won’t have much free time while I’m up here, but there is a fishing pier nearby that rents equipment ( did not bring any of mine as I flew up here) I may get out there this coming Saturday, if I do I will post a report, just because some of you might find it interesting how I do up here in Norfolk!

Hi, greetings from Ireland again... I love reading the angling reports on her... they are scarce. Does anyone on here actually fish? i would to read more reports . gerr8888: Many of us have been away for awhile during the long hot summer. I was out of town for 3 weeks until I was able to get out and fish August 2nd. My trips this time of year are short, given the heat and humidity. Many other residents who don't travel, lay low during the FL heat. I think some of us are curious about your fishing in Ireland this summer. Any reports?

I live 1.5 hours away, so I don't get to the salt water as much as I like. I just got a canoe though, so I might be tempted to the dark side and fish some nearby lakes.

I if I didn’t have to work I’d get a hell of a lot more fishing done. Hopefully I will later in the year when it cools off. And the chance of getting hit by lightning goes down.

With the humidity being in the 70-80's and the heat index being over 100 degrees F some days during the summer months, we will lay low re fishing during the day. Mackerel bite better close to daylight or during the day here depending on the tides and bait schools. They can be caught on various types of spoons, natural and live baits. The mackerel we catch here are Spanish mackerel and King Mackerel which will be different from the mackerel you catch in Ireland. Most of the reports re mackerel caught from the piers will be for Spanish and maybe a few King Mackerel which are much larger than the Spanish when full grown. We also have many other kinds of fish being caught that you have seen in the posts. You can go to www.myfwc.com and click on Saltwater fishing and regulations to view the various species and their regulations. There is also a lot of info on that website. Can you post some pictures of the fish you catch in Ireland? Read the Stickies posts re how to post pictures.

Fresh water Fly Fishing. Nothing like it. It’s very active fishing so you’re not watching a bobber, you are reading the water asking yourself where the trout are most likely to be hanging out. Maybe you’re wrong, maybe you’re right but either way, once you fish that spot you need to move on to hunt other spots. For the most part I had a lot of trouble while picking a fishing reel. Was reading up on places like Amazon and I did like what I saw there. Simple and detailed descriptions for the top of the board reels. Just the way I like it. If you get a tug - the excitement is huge but you’ve got to fight the fish just right to bring him to the net. Just getting a solid take is enjoyable, but you’ve got to work the fish and balance giving him line but keeping tension. It sounds easy but in practice is not. And it’s all worth it to have a few of those moments during the entire day. (for me anyway)

Aside from the bountiful pier, some local folk like myself would wade fish in nearby grass flats during late afternoon for speckled sea trout, redfish and snook but being they have all been closed to harvest because of a severe fish kill from our most recent red tide outbreak (we get them regularly), enormous in size and killed millions of fish state-wide, wade fishing is off the table for me - I want some meat for the table. Don't know about the water quality issues in Ireland but Florida has a serious water quality (high nutrients) problem resulting from agricultural practices (fertilizers) that the politicians don't have the will regulate, gotta keep those campaign contributions coming! The state's fishing industry just doesn't have the clout or money to beat back sugar industry. It's a shame, not only is our sugar industry subsidized with billions of dollars but they also don't have to pay for all the eco-systems they destroy.

But the sugar / agriculture industry has been monitored for the past 20 odd years with a lot of water quality tests being performed. fertilizers are huge expense for farmers ... they don't throw money down the drain if they can help it. + most of the huge cane farms are south of the Ochee, last time I heard the water table also flows south , so the nutrients will have to swim against the current to reach the canals. a quick visit to bullsugar.org and I find scant EVIDENCE / FACTS just a lot of rhetoric. it's easy to blame one or two BIG entities .... but Florida's huge population + tourists all combine to put enormous strain on the environment septic tanks, OLDER water treatment plants that can't keep up , uncontrolled use of fertilizers It's a shame people don't realize politicians can't fix everything Venice tried to stop the use of Fertilizers in the rainy season ... they got voted down by the people! WE... have to take more care of what WE put in the water table. curb Florida's unchecked growth... Do we really need more 800 acre theme parks in Orlando Otherwise we will destroy the reasons we moved to Florida in the first place. PS... the problem is getting worse but the farms are not increasing in size etc
part of the everglades restoration was to buy out thousands of acres of farmland
you do the math!

If you are interested, here's the URL to a well written investigation into Lake O, it covers pretty much all aspects of the issues surrounding water pollution in the lake, maybe this will open some eyes as to how we are in the mess today: weather.com/news/news/florida-toxic-lake-okeechobee

I fish 5-6 times a week. Though I am located in Naples about 140 miles South of the Skyway. Fishing has been much better down here so I haven't been to Skyway in awhile.
Tonight fished Naples pier from 430pm to 730pm... got 28 Spanish mackerel. Lost a few more to the Dolphins who have been terrible as normal.
Good fishing to all of you.

Not saying sugar ppl to blame for the entire issues we are having but when the corps decided to build all the canals to straiten the water moving south it was the beginning of the issues for the everglades and again when they released all the nutrient rich water from the lake o. to both coast the algae blooms took over every where and the coup de gras was the big dump from piney point into Tampa bay, It may take years for fishing to recover.
