To the charterboat captain fishing under the skyway this afternoon trolling back-and-forth tugging on my sons fishing line as he was free lining for Grouper. You know who you are and maybe you’re even checking to see if this post is coming up. I am so sorry to tell you that the advantage you thought you had in your boat pales in comparison To the skills of a 12-year-old boy. I’m wondering if it was your dream when you grew up to one day go under the skyway bridge and taunt a 12-year-old boy? And then I’m wondering if the people that hired you to troll under the bridge were completely satisfied to have you tugging on the fishing line of a young angler? And then my next question might be if you are proud of yourself for your great accomplishment? The skyway bridge pier is for the hard-core fisherman so stay in your boat because you will never out class a 12-year-old.

I too had a “pleasant”experience with a boat this morning. After taking a short break from casting for Macs in bay side I walked to my car for a 5 minute. I saw a boat pull up to my spot. No big deal, I’m sure he didn’t see me. After 5-10 minutes he’s still there. So I walked 20 yards to the right and started casting. I saw he was creeping toward men and parallel with the bridge. So I moved over even more, and starred to cast. And guess what. He’s creeping again. First of, the water is boiling with bait. What’s the hold up captain? Anyway. Now he is literally under my line. So I said politely “common guys it’s a big bridge”. And this guy just lost his mind. F bombs all over the place, said ya it is a big bridge so keep walking. It is obvious some of these boat owners have distain for non boat fisherman and think they own the pier. I’m sure he didn’t see that I was there first, that’s why i was polite. I afraid this one day will turn violent. This guy just about did. I have never seen a fishing pier over run by boats.

This boating behavior is nothing new. Its been going on as long as I can remember, which is a long time. We have tried to get FWC to do something about it for ever. Nothing changes. Hopefully MM's petition will have some impact. None of these guys read this forum and understand the frustration it causes pier fisherman, They just don't care.
If the FWC would happen to be there when it happens then they might do something. In the mean time you can only yell at them and hope they just understand and move off.
I once was freelining about 100 yards off with 80 pound PP and a trolling boat driver crossed my hi-vis yellow line and it caught him close to his neck. I thought the guy was gonna be seriously hurt.
There just isn't a good solution to the problem without posted signs and FWC or marine patrol enforcement.

Unfortunately even if a "law" gets passed the enforcement will be a joke. LEO's are spread very thin and lets face it, this will be a low priority rule. IMHYEO

I got 6 OZ of lead that is hurled at anyone in a boat who messes with me out there, I don’t care the result I don’t put up with that crap and won’t be pushed around - my aim is solid and I’m looking for a headshot!

I suck with my aim. So boaters beware. In fact guys to the left of me, to the right of me and behind. Beware. Just last week in whipped my self in the back. Still have a mark from the spoon. Thank god it was the non hook side. And few days later parkpass is like, you should really use a longer leader, and I’m thinking why, so I can strangle my self.

This my truck is always lock n loaded with at least four rods. And they are always with me and out of the elements. Now if you’re saying get a bigger truck. Well that is a good idea.

At the grocery store in the dairy section they have BOAT BOMBS. Normaly come 12 to a pack....quite inexpensive too. Some people call them chicken eggs. They sure do make a nasty mess when they hit the boat. PS...no need to refrigerate and the older the better.

I fish occasionally from a boat around the Piers but only on the east side in places where the pier fishermen don't have access and sometimes on the west side at a distance of my casting distance plus casting distance from the pier. The rockpiles extent far beyond the casting distance from the pier and there's hardly any fishing line that's been broken off out there to get tangled up in. Don't waste your sinkers on these morons, water balloons filled with whatever would be more fun and not as dangerous to those in the boat who are innocent of any transgression.

Water Balloons would be Great but according to the FWC & Cops they are classified as Projectiles & it is also an Arresting Offence. I found that out by someone that I know who dumped 4 Gallons of Bloody Water on a Boater about 2 Years ago. The Cops came out real quick to the Pier. The Guy claimed that is was an accident but it wasn't. He said that he would throw Water Balloons at the Boaters the next time that it happened. That was when the Cops laid down the Law to him. When the Cops left, We all laughed our butts off.

I still don't understand the desire for boaters to target the bridge where the pier fisherman are active. The opposing side gets no fishing pressure from the pier fisherman. Boaters also have access to the main channel and the main bridge piers. I have had plenty of success in those areas when on a boat. Why fish where the pressure is so much more concentrated? Unless they're a narcissist and need to display your perceived superiority of having a boat.
I have fished with many other boat owners, and my experience is that the ones that fish close to other boats, cut between a boat and the shoreline, speed around a fisherman working the shoreline to get ahead of them, anchor over structure to prevent others from following the process of cycle drifting over the structure or interfere with shore based anglers are of the same personality type. They are anal vents with an attitude. I never fish with them again.
Once I'm back on shore and parting ways I express my opinion. They are usually shocked when I do so in quiet non angry way that states "I believe you are self absorbed narcissists small minded inconsiderate person and that I pity those that go through life seeking to believe they are superior to others. When in fact you are a panty waste. I have no need for people like you, good day." then I leave. I say this with a calm pitying voice and no profanity. Their chin is usually on the ground in stunned silence.

That was crazy. I hope his captain's license is revoked permanently for his actions. The only right thing he did was keep the 16 year away from the alcohol although he went about it the wrong way. I reread the story.

i can tell the force is with you You know, the name was supposed to be a play on words. Yo-Da-Fisherman. As in you're the fisherman not me. I'm by no means a master. However, it has lead to many amusing conversations.
