Raccoons are now having a Problem with Boaters ? I thought that it was just Us Anglers on the SS Pier. Most Boaters are Very Respectful of Others but when some Bad Boaters start messing with the Wild life, the Bad & Disrespectful Boaters needs to Penalized & Punished First it was a couple of Boaters dragging a Shark. Now Raccoons ? Give Me a Break !

Well, I suppose it's sad to those that have never even seen a coon, but I know I don't want to be on a boat or any confined area with one, I've seen what they can do to dogs and it's savage

Raccoon are mean suckers... I wouldn't want him/her on my boat as well. Not too sure where I would store him/her to get her back to land safey for both of us.

Even the Big Raccoons out at Fort Desoto can be savages. I say clear of them.

The mistake this guy made was the video, just shows us lawyers may have legal sense but not much common sense

I am pretty sure.. the public is pushing to get the guy punish and the law need to make an example of it. That is all. Just to save face.

Of course, I can recall a time when FWC would have laughed at this crap, but we now live in a country filled with folks so lost and so far removed from reality and so trying to be a part of something that they don't fully understand.

Even the Big Raccoons out at Fort Desoto can be savages. I say clear of them. They are also bold and aggressive. I recall times fishing from shore near sundown ..along the mangroves. They will approach and get close to you and your bait etc. That is the time I quit and get out. At night you could hear them rattle and shake the garbage cans...which the park people replaced with bins with heavy lids.

"Looking into any laws that might have been broken." It's a f*****g raccoon. I wouldn't let a raccoon on my porch, why the hell would I let one on my boat? Raccoons are complete jerks. And I'm fairly certain there is no must assist laws for saving wildlife. Maybe stop shy of beating it to death with a gaff, but outside of that I feel no obligation to be polite to potentially rabid hitchhikers.

He should get off. He is a lawyer and if you read the FWC rules he did really did not do anything wrong.
FWC says any trapped raccoon “must be euthanized, released on-site, or released on a property within the same county of capture that is 40 acres or larger with written permission from the landowner.”
He did neither. Watch the video again but turn off the sound. The coon jumped off on his own
Also if he did trap and catch it, FWC says he had to kill it.

Good to see you back montylfl. It is a shame the raccoon may have not made it but the boat owner was stuck in between a rock and a hard place. He did the best thing for the safety of himself and his passengers and crew. As the captain of the boat that is his priority. I think filming and posting it was a mistake but good so people could see they had no way to trap it. The foul language was uncalled for. He did the right thing under the circumstances and apologized for his actions. I think he should have called it in to the authorities and let them know where the raccoon got off the boat so the FWC or other authority may have been able to respond and hopefully rescue the raccoon.
