Fished ssp for a while Monday. Lots of small Spanish sardines and some horse minnows between the pier near the entrance. Mack bite was decent. Took home 3 myself largest was 20". Tossed back quite a few 12"x14" fish. I fished a gotcha. The there were some people around me catching them as well on spoons behind weight. Guy with a home made white spoon was doing very well for himself. I also found some some snapper. Hit 4 of them only 1 was large enough for the cooler. There were sheeps head on the pilings and some swimming in circles in pairs. Most were on the small side. Guy just down from me gave me one he didnt want. Landed some grouper as well as a 12", 21" and 24". Cant wait till June Sea fog was crazy. Rolled in 5ish. Cruise ship completely disappeared into it. Have some pics if I can figure out how to post them.

Lots of good fish, blacktip! Should have gone to SSP Monday vs getting just 1 mack at Ft. DeSoto.

That's badass! Where did you find the snapper? I'm bringing my son this weekend and ever since I took him offshore for red snapper he's got this snapper fixation.

My son & I were there Monday also. Got there about 7:30 on the out going tide Fished or I should say threw every thing I had in my tackle box for 2 hours and didn't get so much as a follow. Went out past the last rest room did the same thing out there until noon and didn't catch any thing. Seen one small shark and one crunt caught. Tide has ebbed and nothing happening. decided to go back to the beginning spot. the tide was starting to come in. We started getting strikes and for the next 2 1/2 hours we caught 16 macs and got several cut offs plus 4 steels of our fish on from our friendly dolphins. Ended up a great day!

That was diferent as I have been informed that the incoming tide not as good for macks. I stopped when the tide slacked and then went home. I was at Ft. DeSoto.

Thanks.
Snapper was caught on the rock piles using live cigar minnows. 1/0 live bait hook, 30lb leader and 1oz lead. Move arround till you start to get them. I'll relocate every 10 mins or so till I find a rock pile holding fish.

Somehow i think people get confused on incoming and out going tides so lets clear up confusion.
Incoming tide:the tide is coming in when the water is flowing into tampa bay from the gulf. When on the beach on the coast the current will run norh along the beaches and rollow the washes the strong tides have made in the past.
Outgoing tide: the out going tide happens after tide has had a slack period at highest point or peak it flows out of the bay or south along the beach till it reaches its lowest point again.
Note: the tides are connected with the moons influence of gravitational pull on the earth but can be diffrent or altered by storms and strong fronts it can be higher or lower for longer or shorter periods. According to pressure an location of storm or front

Unfortunately there appears to be a front coming in as I arrive Saturday but Ill just have to hope for the best.
