illegal to spearfish within 100yards from the pier... just fyi...
My GF and I got our limit today at SSP... Just saying they are there.
And yes, we are using shrimp.. no special bait needed.

Spearing or cast-netting Sheeps is cheating....I've had "divers" swim right under me when fishing (with no flag). Very annyoing, but the good news is they usually attract the attention of people in silver trucks. Tears, you using whole shrimp or shrimp halves?

I saw many small sheepshead in shallow clear waters next to the Sand Keys piers yesterday. Most looked too small to keep.

Key on getting the sheephead is to freeline the bait... since they are all over the place.. you want the bait to fall naturally.

Was at the NSP today and used everything from 3 oz to single split shot and only got 4 undersized Sheeps on small shrimp or big shrimp cut in half. Kept getting small Seabass, some juvinelle grouper and my pb Sandperch 😂.

If not you r at the wrong place or at the wrong time.

The Best place to catch the Sheepshead at the SS Pier is just inside the Pier after the Toll Booth. Freeline the I-275 Columns with the Incoming Tide. Use pieces of Shrimp on a #2 or #3 Circle Hook or with a small Splitshot weight for Best Results. The Splitshot will keep the Bait under the water & away from the Birds.

Probably the best when the sheephead is not spawning.. When they are spawning, just freeline the shrimp to them. Make it look as natural as possible. You want slack or outgoing tide at SSP at the begging right next to the troll booth. Look under the bridge, if you don't see them, they are not there yet. Wait until they are there and then freeline to them. You will limit out in no time. Small hooks to keep the shrimp alive and just freeline with 20# leader. Drop down to 15# if needed.
