Look, There are people that go out there with the intent to keep illegal fish and then there are those that don't know the regulations. Both are wrong and honestly I don't know which has the higher impact on the populations. There are many more people who just don't know than there are serious poachers, but the poachers take many fish. It's up to each of use to have the least impact on the environment, but not our responsibility to prevent everyone else from breaking the law. All we can do is follow the laws, educate others and when appropriate report the serious violators.

The adult is to blame for not putting his foot down and making the kid release the undersize fish. When you watch the videos the adult filming the video mentioned measuring the fish in both videos to the kid and the kid blew it off and said the fish is going home for dinner. At the end of both videow the kid said good bye Youtube

I thought I had dad say we got to measure it first. I don't think the dad wanted to argue on video.

Hey guys, I wasn't trying to start a war. Just Posting a video of misguided young man keeping an undersized grouper. Tight Lines blacktip,
You did nothing wrong. The kid in the videos was in the wrong and even when prompted to measure the fish blew it off. With the grouper video he knew what it was before he even brought it over the rail/wall! There was also another video posted maybe by you of him keeping another undersized fish and also blowing it off. It was a sheepshead. That video may have been linked to the grouper video.
Hope you and your family had a good 4th of July.

I hope the FWC is watching the posts when they can. I know they have a lot to do. They can not be everywhere and need our eyes to help and report violations without letting the violator know we are doing the reporting, I have said this over and over again. We need to stay safe ourselves.
blacktip I think you need to send the video to the FWC. From that video they can see other videos of this blatant poacher. The kid may be thinking he is cool and may get away with it. As I said before he needs to be ticketed/fined to be taught a lesson. He is arrogant saying goodbye youtube at the end of the video cutting off any showing whether he released or did not release the fish. He may have released the fish off camera but his on camera comments made it seem like he had no intention of releasing the undersize fish. There were multiple violations 1 with the grouper and 1 with the sheepshead.

All we can do is follow the laws, educate others and when appropriate report the serious violators. You are right about both being wrong re knowing/not knowing the regulations. The fishing regulations booklet and somewhere else states that not knowing the fish species/regulations is no excuse. Tourists and others not in the know re fish species and regulations usually are really nice when you nicely advise them. It is the ones who know the regulations and blatantly violate them that really makes my blood boil.
When I first came down here in 1986 I had caught an undersized fish off the boardwalk at John's Pass and had it on a stringer. When I showed the fish to someone they told me the fish I had, had a minimum size limit and the fish I had was under the size limit. I got lucky the person who told me was not in law enforcement and from that time on I made sure I was up on the regulations when fishing or had the regulations with me to refer to.
