Thanks to all for the helpful discussion! But after reading your posts, I got even more confused. By googling leatherjacket, I found two completely diffrent looking fishes as shown below. Both fishes were cought by my friend and me in the last weeks. Besides the small yellow-tailed greenback-like fish that was cought on last Sat, I have also seen plenty number of another species the trigger fish-like were there hitting the pillars. From googling results, it seems both are called leatherjacket. But they look so different. BTW, the small yellow-tailed greenback-like leatherjacket was cought on spoon, while the trigger fish-like was cought on sabiki (tiny hooks).

Tolentono:
The Top One is Called a Leatherjacket or Skipjack from what We All have Found Out & Agreed on. They will hurt You if You are not Careful. It has happened to Me a couple Times. Their Spines are Dangerous. If You get Spined by them, they will make Your Hand or Finger Swell & it Will Hurt. SkyJay says that they are good for Bait.

of couse for a bait to do it's job there has to be a fish there to eat him in the first place. lol pretty sure the bottom pic the fish in question you got from the pilings is a Filefish.

to clarify, after reviewing you pic, the fish identified as a leatherjacket appears to be some sort of triggerfish. Ive never seen a Triggerfish at the pier, but I have seen lots of File Fish. Simular in appearance.

I believe you are right, it can be filefish. Initially we were excited about catching a triggerfish at the pier. Later we found the skin was like real leather. The Wikipedia says: The filefish (Monacanthidae) are a diverse family of tropical to subtropical tetraodontiform marine fish, which are also known as foolfish, leatherjackets or shingles. to clarify, after reviewing you pic, the fish identified as a leatherjacket appears to be some sort of triggerfish. Most of the filefish I have seen at the pier are orange filefish. There are the leather filefish(AKA unicorn filefish) that are more offshore or in the keys that are really good eating. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXAL4Py23wc
