In a few days i will be the proud owner of a 24 ft Grady White Offshore cuddy cabin. She will be stationed in port Ritchie Wet slip. I do not have a captains license or a charter license . So it would be for fun and donations. I am also looking to upgrade the electronics, and scoop some numbers. When i get her set up i would love to take some of us Land lubbers offshore to make friends and hope to create memories. I can fish 6 comfortably. Lets get together friends to be.

That is a big boat. Grady Whites enjoy a very good reputation. What motor is in it? What size tanks? Marina dock side gas can get pricey.

Navigation and fish finder need upgrading , it has a small garmin fishfinder plotter on it now, but 2x4 screen is not enough for my tired eyes,I damn sure am not using my reading assist glasses on it. I will be putting a lowrance hds 7 atleast on it in a few weeks.

Good deals to be had on electronics, check out the Humming Bird Helix, also Garmin makes some very user friendly devices.
Good luck with the boat! Sounds like you've got yourself a killer rig!

My Dad's lowrance records all the bottom he travels across, on his off days if he can't fish he will spend forever looking at all the bottom he recorded on his way out or between spots. He has found most of his grouper and snapper spots like that. But he started using public numbers, some he still uses. Just because it's public doesn't mean there aint fish! Get an epirb, it is a must for every vessel.

Grats on the Boat! One day Ill have a john boat I have many a fond memory of puttering around Sydney in a John Boat. Aluminium 14 -16 footer with a 10 hp we could hire them for a day for about 20.00 and a tank of gas lasted the whole day no license required cause they were not capable of doing more than 10 knots My mate and me were puttering around the Hawksburry River.... when a thunder storm started brewing decide to put into a secluded bay with a tiny beach and seek shelter in one of the many sandstone overhangs Built a fire to warm up some lunch just as the storm hit Sheww .... we lucked out big time My mate decided hot Baked Beans (Heinz brand or course) was a good lunch and put a can in the fire UMMMMMM.. did you open the can first? No... why should I? You'll see soon enough ! just as those fateful words left my mouth the top of the can buckled up crap... now what we gonna do? Don't know about you mate... but I ain't sticking around to find out so now we have 2 morons standing out into the rain watching the can grow bigger by the second until the inevitable happened ....... BOOOM it let go louder than the thunder around us Back into our nice dry cave we went.... Where's the beans? can was completely empty! Oh well at least we're dry. except every few minutes or so , some beans would let go and drop off the roof of the cave. Found them! spent the rest of the storm watching the roof and dodging beans So in about a thousand years some archeologist is gonna discover our cave I can just see him wondering why his ancient ancestors used beans to do cave art?

That is a great story AG! Thanks for the share, it made my day. I fondly remember rowing a 12', wooden boat up and down the Withlacoochee river. In 1970, I was 10 years old, and granddaddy would let me go out by my self. He always made me row up river, figuring if I got to tiered or lost I would float back home sooner or later. A wooden rowboat, a single shot .22 rifle, and a cane pole. I would go exploring the springs, and Indian mounds, that were not far from the fish camp, and not see another person all day. It was a wonderful experience.

That was great Aussie. Reminds me of a trip i made in Va. Me and a buddy on my 15 ft jon boat went to this place called the concrete ships. There no trespassing as they serve as a breakwater.. Well we tied up to the ship and climbed aboard.. checking it out was awesome.. fascinating piece of history.. well about 20 minutes in.. i look out a starboard port hole and see my boat drifting about 50 yards from the ship............. Now mind you it is mid january and water is 42 degrees at best . and wind is howling on the chesapeak bay . I almost jumped in but we sat there trying to wave down the rare boat that went by . Scared to crap for some reason we got the attention of one boat.. and they rescued us and 4 miles away we found my boat .. oh man what a nightmare .

Aussieguy, That is a funny story re the beans. fyi if you heat baked beans up in the microwave cover the dish they are in. If you do not you will have a similar situation as in the cave. although it will not be on as grand of a scale. I had to clean up the microwave once after baked beans were heated without covering them.

eaglesfanguy, Congrats on the new boat. Carey is right an EPIRB is good to have on a boat. When activated it can help the authorities find you more quickly in an emergency.

Very nice! You should be able to go on your own 48 hour trips to the middle grounds.
