The water temperature seems right, but sometimes I know there are other factors. I just wanted to throw out to the guys here if they think there sill might be some kings around and if so for how long? Also, do you have to be right at the end of the ss pier to get them? I usually fish between the last bathroom before the end and the end of the pier. I am usually more toward the end of the pier.

Throughout the Years, Kings have Hit just about everywhere on the Piers when the Mackerel are Running. Keep in Mind that the Large Kings Chase & Eat the Mackerel & Blue Runners. Although The Best Place to Find them is off the End of the NS & SS Piers in the Channel where the Water is the Deepest. End of NS Pier is 26' deep. End of the SS Pier is 24' deep. I know this by Depth Finders on Boats I have been on Fishing out there. Plus, You can also find this on Nautical Charts as well. Through out the Years, I have Caught Kings on each end of the Piers as well as the Middle of the SS Pier. Most of the Kings this Year has been caught on the Ends of the Piers but I have seen one caught this Year by the Last Bathroom of the SS Pier. Now as far as them still being around; Your guess would be as Good as Mine.

Thanks! I made the mistake of not realizing the front was coming through the day I choose to fish the pier this weekend (Sat). What a bust lol, not even the greenbacks wanted to hit. At night saw ladyfish ofcourse and a few bonnethead patrolling the surface. Did freshwater yesterday and got some bluegill and a cat.

Yea, I just saw that in one of the Tampa newspapers online, can't remember which. Their Sunday fishing report section. Said Kings were hitting best in years. Now I also take it with a grain of salt. These guys are in boats and who knows how many days previous to Sunday they wrote their report. D

Far better at the pier on Friday than Wal-mart, or any black friday sale!

Far better at the pier on Friday than Wal-mart, or any black friday sale! Yes, avoid that black Friday nonsense! It's the human version of large schools of baitfish. Yes, go fishing even if the weather isn't good.

Probably a far better catch at the pier than at the store, anyway!

The water temp is still ideal for kings and macks. This recent cold front may slow the bite for a few days but will only force those bigger fish up north down here. In the old days (now I feel old saying that) when you could fish both sides of the pier, we had pier fishing tournanents on thanksgiving day and caught kings and macs into mid December. If you think the fishing was good in the last month it is only going to get better. As long as the bait stays the fish will stay. Grab your pole, replenish your gear and get out there and get your fish on.

Hey Guys, ask Seabird why He isn't going Fishing this Weekend. Don't Even Bother, I'll tell You. He would Rather be on the End of a Shovel up at Santa's House where They just got 10" - 20" of Snow. In another Week, I bet He gets Stuck up there. He will have to Shovel His Way back down South where it is warm with Fish. Maybe He can Shovel His Self to Lake Michigan & Dig a Hole in the Ice * Drop a Line or two for a Decent Catch. LMAO !!!

I know that was a joke about drop a line in Lake Michigan, but take it from me that lake has gone to pot! Quagga mussles destroyed the food chain and now the lake is basically sterile compared to what it use to be. There are fish there, but listen to this salmon stocking has been reduced by 70 %! Anyway, back to the topic, heck if the kings are still out there then I will keep trying I guess. I was about to call it quits till spring and target other species. Maybe just one more shot.

You are so right about L Michigan. I've fished lakes Erie and Huron but some 30 years ago. Afraid to see what it's like now. Smelt runs died out years ago unfortunately. I am renewing some hope here on macks then. I was sort of hanging it up until spring too. TBOFS has Skyway temps till about 72-73. D

Yes, it was a Joke about digging a Hole in Lake Michigan. But they did get a lot of Snow this Past Week. All though, Seabird says that He catches Fish every time He goes up to see The Relatives & Santa. I just hope Santa brings Us Fish for Thanksgiving & Christmas instead of Us having to go to Walmart to Eat.

All though, Seabird says that He catches Fish every time He goes up to see The Relatives & Santa. I just hope Santa brings Us Fish for Thanksgiving & Christmas instead of Us having to go to Walmart to Eat. I was laughing at what mackere1man wrote about the snow shoveling and digging my way to Lake Michigan to fish.
I went up north to be with relatives over Thanksgiving. I did some snow shoveling on Saturday towards the end of the storm. It got real cold for a couple of days but it's moderated a bit....low 40s now.
The pond on the property froze over partially but the ice was not safe at all for ice fishing. Otherwise, was not planning any other fishing up here.
The deer are real active here and are in rutting season. My brother in law bagged a 262 pounder a 100 yards from the house here. He will go after another buck around sundown. No Santa here but plenty of turkeys around.
Enjoy that full moon tonight and the cooler weather, courtesy of the frozen tundra.

I am originally from up there as well, Hammond, Indiana. I heard about the snow and all I can say is I am glad I am down here. I was up there Sept 24 to Oct 4 for a visit. Had a great time. That was when I learned about the salmon crash. Still managed to get a few. Here is one of em. I use to fish in the winter in a warm water discharge, now looks like I will be doing that at Apollo Beach. Look to be heading out to Desoto this weekend if I can. The report on the mack bite said they are on the ledge in 20 something feet and to look for the crab traps because they mark the ledge. I guess that is about a mile out. Might have to unstrap my old job boat and grab my riptide and head out there.
