Got to the pier around 1 to catch some of the outgoing. Set up a little ways after the bait shop. Didn't even get my rods all the way out yet and the guy next to me brought in a nice Mack. I finally got my three rods out and he catches another two! Pretty soon after the luck turned my way and I landed a 19" and lost another one as soon as I pulled it out of the water, line must have been weakened. Two other guys showed up throwing spoons and chumming around. Things slowed down for a bit then I had a very big Mack hit both of my rods in one pass and cut them clean off. So I retied and bam again hit and cut me clean off. Then I hooked another right next to the pier and he decided to go under and got me on a pieling. All in all fun day even though I only brought one home. Also spoke with some of the guys around me, nice guys. Didn't catch their names but they were definitely experienced Mack fishermen.

dpagates: When I was out last week with Webby, I was using 100lb test leader & It was chewed up. I posted the Picture of it. It was either a Very Large Mack or a Nice Size King.

arrantzale: Here is the Site for Knots. It is also up in Sticky Useful Links - Add Your Also: www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php
I use the Improved Clinch Knot. I Wrap Mine 6 Times. If the Knot gets hard to tie, then wet the Line & Pull. It is very easy once You get use to it. It works for Me & when tied properly, it will not come undone.

Thanks for the link. Yes, I use the improved clinch knot for the leader to hook. But wetting it is a good tip I will try that next time. When I was tying the 40lb leader I only wrapped it like four times because I didn't think I would have been able to tie it tight with more wraps. I use the uni to uni knot to connect the braid to the leader and I didn't have any trouble with the 40 lb leader with that knot. arrantzale: Here is the Site for Knots. When I tie My Knots at Home Like My Mackerel Straws, I used dish water with soap in it. Look at the Mackerel Straw Picture I just put on in the other Post & You can see how good & tight the knot looks.

Arrantzale:
Whatever knot I use, it's a minimum of 6 wrap (if a wrap around is called for). And you definitely have to wet the knot. Spit on that bad boy! It allows the loops to set neatly together when you tighten/cinch down.
I totally suck at tying my own shoelaces let alone fishing knots. So it takes me a while. I was using the uniknot but found myself to excitable when trying to tie up after a cutoff when people around me are catching. So the improved clinch knot works for me exclusively. And yep, 40# mono at least.

dpagates: You are Exactly telling it like it is. No Less than 6 turns & No Less than a 40lb leader or You are just asking for problems & Cut-Offs.
