Fished sunrise until flipper around 11. 4 keeper macks,1 short. Gave them away, didn't take pictures. The bite was early, then it died. I left after I saw 6 dolphin. The water was murky and muddy again during the out going.

webby: The Water does need to clear up from all of the Wind in which we have been having. It just creates Waves & Churns Up the Bottom. The the Fish does not want to bite because they cannot see the Bait or Lure. Plus, since I looked back to the Tidal Flow from this Morning, I saw that the Tidal Flow was Very High, The Water Level Needs to be real down to Clean out. This Dirty & Constant High Tides are being cause By Several of the Planets Lining Up. The Moon, Mars. Venus & Jupiter. This was on the News this Morning.

The weather has been strange for early November, very strong southerly winds and temps 10 degrees above normal. I heard on the radio that the Gulf temps have gone up, now about 80F. Glad you were able to catch some macks, Webby. Thought about going out fishing Friday but not sure now. Thanks for the tidal info, mackerelman

Looking forward to Tuesday which is supposed to be a good day according to the solunar tables. Hoping to see anyone from the forums down there if you are able to make it. We have a couple of N pier spots we like and S pier spots all but one are recommemded by Mackerelman. Give us a call if you will be there so maybe we can meet up. Send a message and we will provide cell phone #s. Here is a picture of a mackerel rig available at Walmart. It comes in yellow, green and orange. It looks similar to the straw rigs that have been discussed. the rigs costs under $3.00 without the weight.

Walmart had some of those spec rigs. Got a couple at the Walmart near the VA hospital for about a buck a piece.

I hate to Bust You Peoples Bubbles but According to the Weather Stations there is a Front coming in on Saturday & Sunday. The Front is supposed to Stall South of The Tampa Bay Area on Monday through Wednesday. With My Past 40 Years of Fishing Experience here in Florida, when a Front Stalls in Our Area, Fishing is Not Worth Crap. The Fish do not Normally Bite like they Usually do. The Front has to Totally Pass the Immediate Area . The Solunar Charts Does Not take into account for Weather Conditions. So if Anyone Goes Fishing then Good Luck.

Yea, I've been hearing that on NOAA weather radio. Weak stalling front Saturday. I'm hoping it moves in earlier or dissipates for Monday...but I'm not optimistic... Keep an eye on sky and yer buckets... D

From my research, it's the colors of McDonald's that entices the strike. Seems some oldtimers swear by it. Google this: McDonald's color switch is the last straw. news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1320&dat=19840824&id=XjxWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=xOkDAAAAIBAJ&pg=3904,2878854&hl=en The link doesn't quite work as well since it appears a scan of a 1984 newspaper article. But if you Google the above phrase, you'll get it. It's interesting and almost funny. I also put a bit of a slit down the tail side so the hook fits into it. I do have to go to the treble hook though. D

dpagates: Fix up One Setup on a Leader with a Straight Hook & another One on a Leader with a Treble Hook on it. That Way, You can see which One in which You have the Best Luck with. And Yes McDonald Straws have been proven to be the Best with the White & Red Colors. It has a better Contrast of Any Straws for whatever Fish You are Targeting. Tears143 will back Me up on that. When I was a Kid, My Dad use to have Me Use the McDonald Straw Setup to Catch Blue Gills up North. They worked real Well. When I Moved down to Florida I used the McDonald Straws on a Treble Hook & then I baited the Hook with a Small Piece of Shrimp. Flounder, Trout & Grey Snapper will Often Hit That.

Mackerelman,
Thanks for the weather update. Was hoping the front would push through and make a trip possible Tuesday.
Did anyone go out and fish today? Was wondering how the water conditions were. Still might go out tomorrow and do some testing of varied lures and setups. Also if I go I may fish another area and not the Skyway. Will play it by ear in the a.m.

I did NOT purchase the mackerel rig I saw at Walmart.
Looking at the paper yesterday morning with the 7 day forecast the winds look to not be bad, maybe 10-15 mph if that at the most and from the east. They say if you do not like the weather in Florida wait 5 minutes so maybe the forecast has changed. Will check it out.
Hopefully the front will pass more quickly than predicted and we can get out and fish.

I also saw somewhere where they punched a few holes in the straw to create water bubbling thru it. I'm not so sure about that not weakening it if ya throw it like a spoon. In fact, I wonder if it gets all tore up that way and you have to keep re-rigging it. I don't see how you can slip a new straw on it. [Announcer's voice]....These and other questions will be answered when one of us actually uses these things.... lol D

dpagates, Actually, I had purchased one of those mackeral rigs a few weeks ago at Walmart. It is yellow in color. Have not tried it yet. Was hoping to get out there today but it was a case of the spirit wanting to do so, but the body saying 'no'. I did get up time to go out but was simply too weary and fell back asleep. I looked outside and was hoping to see some clouds to block that sun but it was clear. I think the very hot weather has affected me. As I heard nothing about any action yesterday, I assumed, maybe wrongly, that there was little action. I hope anyone that went out today had success.

That's what I was afraid of, Tears. But then again, it's cheaper than $5 spoons. D

Hey Guys, all You have to do is Home Make One & Save the Money. Especially if You do not want to Pay the $ 5.00 for a Spoon & the $1.50 for the Weight.

You guys can also use a white pen tube instead of a straw. It'll last much longer and a mack can't bite through it.
