I was wondering, is it illegal to use treble hook with live or dead bait in Florida even if you’re targeting Spanish Mackerels? I know some species are illegal but could not find any info on Smacks.

They use treble hooks for king... so I believe it's fine with macks.. It's a hassle to unhook them though.

Pompanoman, I checked the Florida saltwater regulations for 2015 and treble hooks are ok for both macks and kings. Read page 16 entitled 'recreational gear' and you will see what they state. Just backing up what you said in the post.

This is a bit off topic. Seabird and I went to the new Bass Pro Shop in Brandon today . Really neat store. All sorts of fishing, hunting, camping stuff. They even had metal detectors and gold panning pans which we did not expect. There is also a big restaurant. Islamorada Fish Company. We got there about 9:30-9:45 and left about 3PM. They also have a freshwater aquarium. Lots and lots of stuff to see.

As shadowxmas stated, we spent several hours at Bass Pro shop in Brandon. Their fishing section of course was huge and we picked up many items. They had a very good shoe and boot section. If you like hunting, the gun and archery area was impressive. We called the tour a field trip.

Yeah, I've been there. The Price of the Average Saltwater Rod & Reel is More Expensive than Dogfish Tackle. I found that the Gear & Tackle there was also more expensive. They don't carry Certain Kinds & Types of Saltwater Gear Either. They also Need a Saltwater Aquarium. That was a Dead Give-Away. The Store has a Freshwater Aquarium. The Store is set up for the Freshwater Fisherman.
It is a Nice Place to go, but what You spend in Gas to go there & back from Pinellas County like Clearwater, You could have went to Dogfish Tackle on Park Blvd. & Spent Less & Got what You want & got Back Home and Have Your Gear all Set up Your Gear before You got back from there-(Brandon). Let alone the Traffic in which is a Real Bear.

Yes, agree that basspro shop.. everything in there usually cost more. Only shop there if you couldn't find something you are looking for else where or when they have a sale.

It is a place where we will not go very often. Maybe once or twice a year. It is a really neat store for all that it has. Roney's brother in law hunts and uses bows and arrows and guns. The archery area was very impressive with all the bows and arrows and deer stands camo clothing etc. They even had gold panning pans along with metal detectors. The food in the restaurant was very very good. Roney and I got the Bass Pro burger which came with fries and a small dish of coleslaw. It was $8.99 and I was not able to eat all of it. The burger was bigger than the bun.
We did pick up some tackle items.

When we traveled to Bass Pro shop, we lucked out with the traffic. We left for there just after rush and departed at 3 pm before the Tampa rush hour. As MM said they had just a fresh water aquarium. They did have a small salt water one in the restaurant. I agree the prices are higher than Dogfish or certainly Walmart. Most of the fishing tackle was geared more to fresh water. We did the trip out of curiosity to see what the hullabaloo was about.

But then again, in Michigan we had freshwater lakes and of course the Great Lakes. Yes, it was very geared to freshwater due the location. I'm surprised here in FL especially on the coast they don't have more saltwater gear. You copped on a bubble float? How long is it? The ones I got off internet said "medium" size but it's only 2 inches long. Great for bass inland I suppose but if I threw that out at Skyway it'd disappear from sight it's so dinky. I'm looking in 4 or 5 inch length. D
