For my bday my girlfriend said she wants to rent us kayaks to go fishing for the day. I have been kayaking in crystal river and all that but never fished from one yet but I've been wanting to try. We will either rent from the Upper Tampa Bay Park or over on the Dunedin Causeway. Has anyone fished those areas on kayaks or do you have any general kayak fishing advice for this time of year? I want to at least have a general plan before we go because I'd hate for us to be rowing around aimlessly all day and not even remotely near a good fishing area. Any advice is welcome.

My brother fished Dunedin years ago and did great for Sea trout, check google maps (or Earth) to find sand patches or anywhere the channels have jagged edges, Shrimp, Love lures, Mirro lures in these areas should work good. Remember because you are in kayaks to use stelth and try to keep noise to a min. Most of all have fun and Happy birthday!

Tyler, if you go to Fort Desoto, the channel that runs in front of the campsite is full of specks, again use google maps and find the jagged edges of the channel and sand spots. I also see a lot of people fishing along the mangroves for Reds and Snook. The kayaks across from the actual fort puts you real close to some real good fishing and its almost all no motor zone. Hope this helps and good luck.
