Was thinking about fishing the Gandy area next week for some drum. Anyone hear any recent reports? I normally anchor up, and stick chunks of blue crabs under the bridge. But its been a good long while since I've done it. Any info would be great, Thanks Tight Lines

I would have to partially disagree. Most of the winter time/deeper water fish I caught Didn't have worms. Dead heat of summer is a different story. Very good table fare. Very firm white meat. I would recommend bleeding with a gill cut and chilling with lots of Ice/water slush. Take care of your meat and your meat will take care of you.
Just as a side not, lots of shallow water fish have worms, IE Sea Trout. They are normally loaded with white worms. It the fish isn't riddled, cut them out and enjoy.

I Totally Agree here with Blacktip. It Is the Summer months that affect All Fish. I have caught Large Sea Trout & Cut them open & to My surprise had worms. I have Caught Red Drum -(Redfish) in the Winter that were Fine. But also I have caught Red Drum -(Redfish) in the Summer that had worms. Snook is another Fish that can contain worms when caught when (Legal Time to catch) in the Summer. I have seen this 2 or 3 times in My Years.

I've seen the white worms in large Mullet along the spinal column. We've cut them away and enjoyed the fish.
Anyone know if these parasites can infect humans?
How do ya'll target the Black Drum? I'm hoping to catch a big one this year.
Thanks!

I have found black drum to be more of a colder season fish. The smaller ones under 24 inches are good, similar to sheepshead, and like the sheepies black drum are found near structure.
