Hello all. Went to the SSP today (6/27/15) and stayed from 6am-11am. It was a beautiful day, but had a very crappy outing actually. Pinfish (not much else) were a plenty. I wasn't the only one that didn't catch much of anything so that at least made me feel "better."
Regarding Bait Shop shrimp, I saw a report that mentioned the small shrimp at the Skyway Bait Shop, and yeah, these shrimp were TINY today. I felt robbed paying $4.50 for a dozen. The current shrimp at the pier Bait Shop are just over priced and undersized. I wish they would lower prices when they have these small sized batches.
Are there any Bait shops near or on the way to the Skyway Bridge? I'm coming from Lakeland (taking the 75 down) and cannot get a good read of anything closer to the pier. The "closest" one is in Ruskin I believe, thanks to Google. Any others I can look for? I'd rather pay (less) for shrimp elsewhere.

That size is about all you will find this time of year at most baitshops. Get on yellow pages or maps you should get better results.

What I use is O'neill's Marina. Last exit before the Skyway when heading south on I275. www.oneillsmarina.com/bait.htmlYou can always call first and ask for the Baitshop, to know what they have.

He's coming from the south and traveling north on I275. The only other bait shop that I know of that "might" have shrimp is the one on 19 Terra Ceia Bay bait and tackle. I heard not very good review from it, from other people I meet at SSP.

Greenbacks not so much if ever (they say because they die too quickly). Not a bad little bait shop though in my opinion. They have ice too which is a plus for me.

It really doesnt take much longer to get to the pier if you detour off 75 to 41 and then hit the Ruskin shops. as a rule in my opinion its worth the stop. hell for 4.25 a doz you could get handpicked snook shrimp there. then just follow 41 on southward to 275 to the pier.

Thanks all. I'll go ahead and give that Ruskin shop a try next time I head down.

I like Tatum's Bait Shop at 2445 34th Street South, St Petersburg, FL 33711. It's right off of I-275 right before the north pier, they carry all types of live and frozen bait and prices are very good. I loaded up with three dozen good sized shrimp for $2.75/dozen yesterday
