Hey everyone! Nestor here. I'm new to the forum, and although I was born and raised in the Tampa Bay area, I'm new to fishing the Skyway as well. I practically grew up on a boat with my dad fishing out of Hudson and Anclote, but have recently moved into an apartment in the Wesley Chapel/New Tampa area with my girlfriend, so I am now looking into pier fishing and shore fishing to get my fix.
I've been reading a lot of the the reports and info posted on this forum lately, and yall provide some amazing advice - which is pretty astonishing because on many of the other forums it's like trying to pull teeth to talk to people. Anyways, I'll be heading out to the Skyway and getting there around 5am or so tomorrow morning to fish the outgoing, and will be having a buddy of mine come down at around 8 or 9 to meet up and fish the incoming. This will only be my second time fishing the pier. The first time was the evening before a massive storm about a month ago, and I only managed to get a few small Spanish on the end of a gold johnson spoon right before I left. The wind and the chop was just too crazy. Tomorrow I'm hoping to make a pretty successful trip as I haven't had a nice tug on the end of my line in saltwater for a while now.
Any pointers that you could provide a novice pier fisherman with? I'm mainly looking for if there are any areas before getting on to the pier (north or south side, doesnt matter) where I could throw a small net for some live bait, and what y'all have been having luck with out there as far as artificial goes, because I plan on throwing both. I don't plan on targeting anything specifically (although a summer grouper off the rocks would be amazing). Just looking to go out and learn a few new things and have a nice day. Thanks in advanced guys.
