Hey all:
Is it even worth it to attempt a trip out to Skyway tbis Saturday late afternoon? Is it elbow to elbow with people and no parking spots? Or am. I just paranoid?
I ask because it take me over 2 hours to get there and at the very least I'd like to share the sunset with a dear friend....after we get her wetting a line ya know?
Also, is a saltwater permit needed on Skyway? I thought not but the baitshop on NSP should cover it right?
Thanks

I've never gone on sat. but sun. is usually crowed at the end of the S.pier especially if the bonito or mackerel are running. No fishing license is needed for the either pier

No fishing license is needed for the either pier I thought so on the license. Guess the $4 covers it. As long as I can get a spot Saturday to park it'll be good to get out. Hopefully we can entice something to come up. Thanks for the info....

Always find parking on the north pier Meaning there could be difficulty on the south pier? Or no fish on the north pier? Either way I guess it'll be nice to get out and learn some more. I've been to the piers once so my learning curve is still pretty flat.... Thanks Monty.

fuzz...meant to post when I got back-----this "report" will be the results of yesterday (02Jan15)....coming down with the bug...I hooked up to something that gave me a great fight for about 3 minutes till it bent my hook. It was a blast. After that, nothing. The bait fish where everywhere...however, no mackerel chasing or anything...will be heading down tomorrow morning. I was about 100 yds down from the end

fuzz...thanks. So, just returned from the pier. Wow, the wind was/is ripping today. The standard pins and small grunts. The bait fish are balled up underneath the pier. I was toward the end, about 100yds. Only saw two macks pulled out around me. As I was leaving, I saw a bonnet head pulled over the rail, close to the first restrooms. Going to take some meds, a nap and hot soup. Good luck guys, be safe and hopefully the fish start biting soon....

Tears...might have been better off. This morning had to go the airport, decided I would check out north pier (1st time there). Got one nice size grunt, 12incher. Other than that, sunny and nice. Swung by the south pier on the way home for a few minutes, nothing.

Today, I went down to the small bridge. The sheepheads were on the pilings, could not get a hook up. I could see them just eating away. The mist blanket came rolling in after about an hour, tapped out. Any pointers to catch them? Bait, etc. Thanks.

I just started targeting sheephead myself... The bait of choice is either fiddler crab or mud crab. Be careful of using stone crab. They look just like the mud crab. The key different is stone crab have stripe or band on their legs. I use the smallest hook I can get away with.. 4-1 size. Lightest weight that I can get away with and keep it next to the pilling. I like fishing the eddy behind the pilling. Sometime it's better to fish the rocks... hint hint. Too many spearfisherman just slam that small bridge. I'll be in the East coast trying for pompano in the surf.
