Hello my fellow pier rats. Its been a long while. Well a long while since my last post. Headed out early am to the SSP. Bait was plentiful, a mix of, spanish sardines, white bait, scalled sardines, horse minnows (lol) blue runners. Made for a live well of dreams. I took a limit of macks, hooked into a few grouper but lost them to the rocks. also caught a few small red grouper and a short seabass. No real problems with flipper this trip. Did have an encounter with some poachers. People caught about a 16 inch area grouper. I told them it was undersized and it needed to be released. Theys said "Yeah Whatever". and tossed it in a black trash bag. none of their other catch (macks) went in a bag, they went in a cooler. They knew they were in the wrong. I called the FWC and the Puckers didnt bother showing up. about an hour later they left, then returned another few hours later with a new set of threads and two more people. Car was a Silver Toyota Rv4. Have a picture of it as well. Just after sun set, a wicked front rolled in, wind was prob 25+, was pretty neat. after playing in the wind for a bit, Called it a day. Figh are bitting, Tight Lines

Youve done your job now if only fwc would have done theirs. There is a real BIG problem at the skyway with people poaching. I have seen far too many myself. If FWC would just show up periodically the problem wouldnt be as bad.

The bad thing is the FWC was there 3 hours prior.

Ouch that hurt! It's pretty bad at there... People trashing the place... poarching and such. Saw a guy fillet a hammerhead shark out there.
Going to fish tomorrow evening and night. Hoping for a snook, probably not at skyway though.

Great report as always Blacktip! Super pics as always. Not a lot of love around here anymore sadly. I was talking to an FWC officer about the lack of respect for the law at the Piers and here's what he suggested. 1. If you witness a person breaking the law (i/e violating size, closed season, or bag limit regulations) aproach the suspect cautiously. 2. Try to get a Picture of the offender with the fish, if not able to get a pic of both fish and offender together snap shots seperatly. while technically this is probably not enough evidence to obtain a conviction, it will do two things. One it will put the poacher on notice he is being watched, and two it will give the officers the patrolloing the piers a better idea of who to keep an eye on. 3. Take a pic of their vehicle, and license plate. 4. Try to obtain as much information about the suspect as possible through conversation. I/E Name, town they're from, where they work etc. 5. Forward all pics and a brief written decription of what youve witnessed to the FWC email adress listed on their website.
With the advent of the smart phone, we can all use this wonderful little tool to help eliminate the poaching issue at the piers.. Lets all do our part and become undercover crusaders against unethical dishonest lowlife a######s that ruin the experience for everyone!
