I credit SkyJay for this one: Use an old heavy duty extension cord (the thick orange ones) as a rope for a water bucket. It stays tangle free, is A LOT easier on the hands than rope, and you can hoist it up against the concrete rail without it fraying. Also, using a square bucket is a great idea. They lay on their side and fill with water easier than a round bucket.

i just got me a new jeep, theres no way im spillin stinky shrimp water in it. so now i take my baitbucket, and set it inside a thick trash bag. so when ya mash on the gas and water splashes out, it stays in the bag and not in your ride. trash bags leak too. Invest in one of those storage bins with the lid on top. Bait bucket fits nice inside. Plus if you catch alot of bait you can use it as a live well. ( not round inside but servers its purpose.) These bins are good for throwing use tackel in too.

That idea sounds good but it has 2 flaws. #1 the fish probably would have died & #2 You can never get the law when you need them there usually only around to hassle the people doing right.

SABIKI RIGS~get tamed by wrapping around a section of pool noodle. Keep the hooks imbeded into the foam , and if you wrap the rig in a spiral , it will come right off the noodle and ready for use.
If LINE TWIST ~ at the beginning and end of the fishing day, just let line flutter down into the water(without anything/ no terminal tackle) and it will allow the tidal water flow to pull out the twists. On reeling line back in, apply just a little pressure between two fingers, and as the line comes up to the pier, the line twist will be gone. Reload terminal tackle for next outing.
BE OBSERVANT ~ skip the tourist license plates ~ ask a local fisherman especially IF you see him successful.
KEEP A LOG ~ especially gamefish (how/when/where/bait used/tidal flow/wind direction/ etc.) but ESPECIALLY THE EXACT LOCATION ON THE PIER. That way you can find the exact spot next trip.

FOOD SAVER/vacuum sealer Spend the money on a good investment, sometimes you can find them at garage sales ( but make sure they work before buying). FREEZE YOUR CATCH ~ they will last several months without freezer burn. FREEZE YOUR BAIT ~ salting your bait in a brine solution for several hours (or days, depending on bait size)will toughen them up. Drain bait. Pat bait dry with paper towel. Place in Vacuum sealer bag, make sure no moisture is at the seal ,suck out all the air, seal.
REEL LINE~ on my spinning rods , under the spool where it won't interfer with the drag ,list the pound test of the line that is on the spool. That way you wont take #35 test to go grouper fishing. Also , list the date spooled since line doesn't last indefinitely.

When marking a spool I use duck tape / painters tape so that it adheres to the spool and won't interfer with operation of the reel or drag.
KEEP LEADERS ORGANIZED ~ even when packed inside sandwich bags, long leaders can be tamed by wrapping with painters tape , or small pieces of pipe cleaner.

I buy my lead weights on ebay. There are sellers that will sell 100 1oz weights for around $15 including shipping. That beats Walmart prices!!!

Great idea this subject. Skyjay great to see you posting again. How are you? As for the sabiki's. I usually rig up my poles before I went out and they usually got tangled or got stuck to the carpet I put in the bed of my truck. Then I thought of putting one of them plastic umbrella bags you see when you walk into walmart or publix or whatever. I just cover them up and tie the bottom with a twist tie or string or even tape it. Have to fish I don't particularly like hauling up big buckets either so I got me a 1 gallon bucket at dollar tree, took off the bail and made my own handle with braided nylon and it works great. The lead idea is great though. I had a hard time filling it when the tide wasn't moving. Tylerdurden PVC works great for me. I bought some chain links and cut them up then put one down about a foot from the top fastened with a metal strap. On each one I have I also have a short length of nylon line that I loop around the reel with a slip knot. Having said that when I first made them I put a 45 wye at the top and the first time I used them I had just put one in the water with a large piece of cut bait I found and turned around to bait my other pole. I looked around for some reason and the pole was bent double . I grabbed that ugly stik and held on for dear life and it got broke off in about a minute. But whatever it was broke that wye on top of that pvc. Probably a goliath grouper or old hitler or something. I been using them for 2 or 3 years now and that is the only one I've had broke off. That's why I use the nylon line and the chain loop. I know I was very lucky to keep my brand new ugly stik. Tight lines all. riverviewsteve USN, RETIRED
